Brexit Update #1

On February 8, 2019 by Dutch Umbrella Company

Will the United Kingdom definitely leave the European Union on the 29th of March 2019. That is the question that everyone is asking. It is written into law that the United Kingdom will be leaving on 29.03.2019 at 23:00, UK time.

But as you have probably guessed, it is quite difficult to state the next developments. A possibility is that the deadline of the 29th or March could be extended – and the European Court of Justice has said the UK could even cancel Brexit altogether without the agreement of other nations.

What happens if the United Kingdom leaves without a deal?

‘No deal’ would mean that the United Kingdom would have failed to agree a withdrawal agreement. And if that’s the case, that would mean there would be no transition period after the 29th of March. European Union laws would stop applying to the UK immediately.

The UK government has started planning for this possible situation. The government has published a series of guides – which cover everything from pet passports to the impact of electricity supplies. The guides, incorporating all possible subjects, can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications
