Frequently asked questions about holiday pay and days of holiday

On December 9, 2014 by Dutch Umbrella Company

As an employee you have the right to holiday pay and days of holiday. But how many days of holiday do you actually accrue? How do you request a day off and when will the holiday pay be paid to you? We explain this under our frequently asked questions about holiday pay and days of holiday.

Holiday and/or days off

For each full month worked you have the right to 16 holiday hours (in case of a 40-hour working week). If you have not worked the entire month, the number of holiday hours will be accrued according to the number of hours that you have worked.

Statutory days of holiday and days of holiday above the statutory minimum

Your days of holiday are divided between statutory days of holiday and days of holiday over and above the statutory entitlement (minimum). As an employee you have the right to a statutory number of days of holiday. You will sometimes receive more than the minimum number of holiday hours. These extra holiday hours are called holiday hours over and above the statutory entitlement (minimum). The Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Association of Intermediary Organisations and Temporary Employment Agencies (NBBU cao) has established that you accrue 4 extra days of holiday per year.

Taking a day off

If you want to take a day off you must always report this to your hirer. If they agree to this you can register your leave hours by using the WePayPeople portal. Are you leaving employment? In that case the balance will be paid out to you.

Number of leave days

Curious to know how many leave days you have left? You will find the balance at the bottom of your payslip. You then divide the balance by the gross hourly wage. Do remember to take into account that your balance is a gross amount. In other words, tax will still be deducted from this.

Holiday pay

The holiday allowance amounts to 8% of the total gross wages earned by you. When you wish to have your holiday pay paid you can email Operations & Support. This allowance  is therefore not automatically paid to you every year in the month of May!
