In focus: Minimum wage 2013

The minimum wage in The Netherlands is reviewed twice per year.

On the 1st January this year, the minimum wage was increased by 0.91%, with the second half of the year seeing an increase of 0.57% as of the 1st July 2013.

Below you will find a table showing the minimum wages according to age and pay period.

The minimum wage rates shown above are based on a standard working week. These are pro rata’d for part time workers. The standard working week varies between sectors and therefore the minimum wage per sector is calculated using the standard working week of that sector. For example, employees aged 20 years with a working week of 36 hours and a pay period of a week have a minimum hourly wage of €5.83.

What’s in focus?

  • The legal minimum wage increased on 1st July 2013 by 0.57%;
  • Minimum wage rates are related to the age of the employee;
  • No minimum wage applies to employees under 15 years;
  • The minimum wage rates are calculated using the standard working week of the sector;
  • Statutory holiday pay has been maintained at 8% in 2013.
